<i>Sarah - human trafficking survivor.</i><br />
<br />
It seems like a story from the 17th century, but it is one of many in the 21st century. The profits are huge, the scale of the trade is vast. Economic migration and the search for a better life are the catalysts for this trade. The really frightening effects of this trade are yet to come. Welcome to the frightening world of 21st century human trafficking - the modern slave trade.<br />
<br />
If this trade is not stamped out - the scale will increase as the profits grow kidnappings and abductions will be used to fill the gaps when voluntary victims or custom orders are made to slavers. The victims physically and emotionally scarred for life will me our wives husbands, neighbors and those of our children. The value of human life and the sense of humanity will be rubbed out in a generation of people growing up without human empathy. The fall-out will be devastating. This is a planet-wide scourge and it much be purged immediately.<br />

Our women are beautiful flowers, the lights of our lives. They are to be adored, cherished and protected. Across the world, as many as 30 million people are currently being held in bondage, moved from location to location as victims in the lucrative global human trafficking trade.</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
Convinced by people (family members, pastors, lovers, friends) they trust, young women, the life blood of our nations, mothers of future generations are lured by promises of good jobs and a better life only to be sold into sex slavery or worse used in the body spare-part trade and killed.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br />Horror stories of women forced to service as many as 30 clients a day on pain of brutal assault or worse, abound in the press. Others have been indoctrinated into thinking that sex work of this nature is the only way to provide for those back home. A whole generation of the flowers of our nations destroyed physically and emotionally. It is frightening and tragic. These are the tales of the survivors, so imagine the countless others who were not so lucky.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;">
<br />We cannot let such terrible things happen. Do whatever you can to help stop this horrible practice. It is your duty as a human being. The next victim may be someone you know and love.</div>

Exploitation shall include, at a minimum, the exploitation of the prostitution of others or other forms of sexual exploitation, forced labour or services, slavery or practices similar to slavery, servitude or the removal of organs." - <b>UN Migration Agency.</b><br />
<br />
This horror is happening now, in our time, right before our very eyes to our sisters, brothers, mothers, fathers in Nigeria and in many cases people are willingly taking, no willingly paying for their trip to death and destruction. It has existed for a long time but the scale of the problem is now spiraling out of control. We are loosing our people daily to this tragedy. Even if some of these people survive the horrors, the emotional damage will be irreparable and will cascade to the next generation. The fallout of this problems are mammoth in proportion and terrible in implication. <br />

A young girl at the genesis of womanhood, beautiful, almost innocent, beginning to feel and sense true womanhood, physically and spiritually. There's something ethereal and haunting in the beauty of a woman. It actually does not matter if your eyes perceive her as ugly unattractive or beautiful, its always there in the shapes, forms and motion of a woman. I think it's something that goes beyond the physical and yet manifests as an attribute that can be physically sensed, or perhaps it's more than that. </div>

From the void comes a thought, from thought comes form and a thing is created. The concept of something from nothingness is one that has consumed me for a long time. In my work as artist, and creative technologist I have been privileged to be at the point of conception of different sorts of forms, paintings, apps, games, websites. and they all come from the void, an idea, then thought, then concepts, then building and then form. Esprit libre connotes all those ideas, the need to free the spirit so it can soar as high as it can go </div>

Light is an important part of art, physically, psychologically and spiritual. The allusions to light and darkness as the trigger to the creation of form and substance are as old as man's recognition of the spiritual and the meta-physical. In creating art all these things come into play creating forms, tensions calm and hopefully beautyUnknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7588787832424557535.post-64999028344554622802018-01-03T12:40:00.000+00:002018-01-03T12:43:13.406+00:00ARHUANRAN -THE GIANT WARRIOR PRINCE OF BENIN KINGDOM This is one version of the tale of my mythical hero Arualan (the name means giant). The version I read as a child was written by J Sidahome<br />

<br />
During the reign of Oba Ozolua (between 1483 and 1514 AD), two of his wives, Oloi Idia and Oloi Ohonmi, gave birth on the same day. They both had sons.<br />
<br />
Oloi Ohonmi gave birth in the morning to the first son and he was named Idubor, who was fondly called Arhuanran (sometimes spelt Aruanran). <br />
<br />
On the other hand, Oloi Idia gave birth later in the day. Her son was given the name Osawe (He later became Oba Esigie).<br />
<br />
Here’s where the drama started.<br />
<br />
When Idubor was born, he did not immediately cry. In that era, it was inappropriate to announce the birth of a mute baby to the monarch. However, Queen Idia’s baby cried as soon as he was born and thus, his birth was reported to Oba Ozolua, who instantly declared him his first son, automatically moving Idubor to the number two slot.<br />
<br />
Idubor, while growing up was very bitter about his predicament. On many occasions, he asked his mother if the king was his true father and why he callously took away his birthright in such a mean fashion. <br />
<br />
Idubor (Arhuanran) grew up to be a giant. Legend has it that he uprooted palm trees with his bare hands, sweeping the ground with the fronds. He turned out to be a great warrior who had the overwhelming advantage of size and stamina. <br />
<br />
I must add here that another version of this story reveals that Idubor and Osawe were not actually the eldest sons of Oba Ozolua. They had an elder brother, Ogidigbo, who was said to have become a cripple following a combat competition between him and his brothers. His disability disqualified him from taking over from his father. Citizens secretly pointed accusing fingers at Oloi Idia as being responsible for Ogidigbo’s calamity, using her mystical powers to ensure that her son, Osawe (Oba Esigie) clinched the crown.<br />
<br />
Before his demise in 1504, Oba Ozolua had already carved out dukedoms for his sons. This was to avoid anarchy in the next dispensation. As compensation, Arhuanran was therefore made the Duke of Udo; a town not too far from Benin.<br />
Please, note that Idia's role in the nullification of the first son Ogidogbo was not lost on Arhuanran, whose enmity towards his brother Osawe ( Oba Esigie) intensified that he even tried to assassinate him. <br />
<br />
A noted warrior and conqueror of the fierce town of Okhumwu, Arhuanran was bigger and stronger, and could easily have trounced the weaker Esigie, whom Oba Ozolua had sent to attend the Portuguese mission school after his baptism.<br />
<br />
Arhuanran's assassination attempts could have succeeded were it not for Idia who was reputedly skilled in magical arts and whom he knew was a formidable opponent he had to overcome. <br />
<br />
Realizing he had to acquire supernatural powers if he wanted to take on Idia who was her son's spiritual protector, oral tradition recounts that Arhuanran retreated to Uroho village to learn the art of black magic from an old sorceress, Iyenuroho (Okpewho).<br />
That he chose a woman as teacher, is clear recognition that his opponent was a woman and that he had to learn the ways of female mystical powers to be assured of victory. <br />
<br />
We should note that Esigie's possible lack of combat experience, is the result of having to attend the school of Portuguese missionaries, rather than join his father in fighting wars.<br />
<br />
Failing to accept the facts on ground, the Duke (Enogie) of Udo, Ahruanran refused to play a subordinate role to his brother, Oba Esigie, and at first, tried to make Udo the capital of Benin kingdom, with himself as king. It did not take too long before the two brothers went to war. <br />
<br />
The war was difficult, bitter and long drawn out. It was not until the third campaign that Udo was defeated. <br />
<br />
The third campaign was timed to coincide with the planting season, when Udo citizen-soldiers, who were mainly farmers, would be busy on their farms.<br />
<br />
Meanwhile, Arhuanran had two sons Kpamabira and Oni-Oni. They were ruling alongside their father, but before the war, Kpamabira died.<br />
<br />
Prior to the last battle with his brother, Oba Esigie, Arhuanran told his surviving son, Oni-Oni to stay at home and wait for his return, alerting his household to listen out for the sound of the magical bell that he placed somewhere in the house. He explained that if it chimed, they will know that his brother, Oba Esigie had won the battle.<br />
<br />
Later on, as he fought in the war front, Arhuanran was shocked to see a young man fighting just like himself. Without thinking twice, he used a powerful incantation, commanding the sword to immediately kill the copycat fighter (A GBE VBE NI ME GBE NE UMOZO GBEE RIE YOEWE). <br />
<br />
At that moment, the warrior died, only for Arhuanran to discover that the man who possessed his fighting skills, was none other than his beloved son, Oni-Oni. Arhuanran had no idea his son had sneaked along to join in the war. In rage and pain, Arhuanran intensified his onslaught on his brother’s army, until there was no winner in the battlefield.<br />
<br />
When victory was not forthcoming, Arhuanran decided to run home on time, but his movements were not swift enough…<br />
<br />
By this time, the magical bell at home was sounding and therefore, Udo people believed Oba Esigie had conquered their duke. <br />
<br />
This perceived tragedy caused his wife to jump into a river close to the lake (Odighi). She died.<br />
<br />
As soon as Arhuanran got home, he found out that his wife had jumped into the river. He was so sad. His sons were gone, now his wife…<br />
<br />
A depressed Arhuanran also jumped into the lake. He did not want to be captured prisoner and taken back to Benin. <br />
<br />
Before jumping into the lake, he left his Ivie (coral beads necklace), the precious symbol of authority in Benin land, dangling from a tree branch were it could be easily found. Only the Oba could inherit such trophies of dead or conquered leaders and nobles.<br />
<br />
Now, Oba Esigie, out of excitement, wore his late brother's necklace. He became mentally disoriented right after he put the necklace around his neck. Removing the necklace from his neck, made no difference. <br />
The king was immediately taken back to Benin in that hopeless state.<br />
<br />
His mother, Idia, immediately located a Yoruba Babalawo (mystic) at Ugbo/Ilaje, in the riverine area, and brought him to Benin to work on the king´s spiritual ailment. <br />
<br />
He later cured the Oba of the shameful ailment and the Queen after rewarding him generously, prevailed on him, (the Yoruba mystical healer), to settle permanently in Benin, in order to continue rendering his services to Oba Esigie should the need arise.<br />
<br />
The Yoruba traditional consultant agreed to stay in Benin and set up home at Ogbelaka quarters, where his descendants have thrived until this day.<br />
<br />
Back to Udo:<br />
Many believe that Arhuanran did not die inside the lake (Odighi). They claim he still comes out at night to parade the town of Udo, providing protection for his people.<br />
<br />
Before now, the nights Arhuanran came out of the water, all the babies in Udo town would cry non-stop. This trend forced the people of Udo to appeal to Arhuanran spiritually. <br />
<br />
After specific rituals, the children no longer cried when he came out of the lake.<br />
<br />
Furthermore, the river the wife dived into, is directly opposite the lake. A road separates this river from the lake. Once every year, the river always crosses the road to meet the lake where Arhuanran committed suicide. <br />
<br />
Even in 2017, it is forbidden to touch or drink the water from that lake. It is also forbidden to kill or eat any animal from or around the lake. The waters were declared sacred.<br />
<br />
<br />
It was told that around 1955, a group of Udo people were returning from their farm when they saw a young boy shooting birds close to the lake and the stone dropped into the lake. Immediately, there was a loud voice from the lake that sounded like thunder and many trees around the place shook, as a heavy wind blew. At that moment, the boy became sick and he was rushed home for treatment. <br />
Udo town used that opportunity to tell the public that Arhuanran did not really die, but still lives in the lake; especially as there was never proof of his death. The new Creators Update in the fast track is amazing, fast responsive, elegant and ridden with a number of issues that I hope get fixed before the final release. Let's get stuck in<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi-i5J9nXFXy4SGeWW5z36p8GCbReBgjNB6o9hcH2fkaHARuoyDYwTy1O0cz_b09b1omvCyXc5hwpHQZOKXq5ur6JyJNseOXd7WNWlfaLsXsP7NDFxtUFo1T3bLEf7Tiq2RGFE2NJaiRmM/s1600/2017-07-30.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="900" data-original-width="1600" height="180" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi-i5J9nXFXy4SGeWW5z36p8GCbReBgjNB6o9hcH2fkaHARuoyDYwTy1O0cz_b09b1omvCyXc5hwpHQZOKXq5ur6JyJNseOXd7WNWlfaLsXsP7NDFxtUFo1T3bLEf7Tiq2RGFE2NJaiRmM/s320/2017-07-30.png" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<b>1. Wacom Pen Tool Integration:</b> So far the Creators update has not played nicely with Wacom tablets. It fails on so many levels. This is completely at variance to the idea of creativity which is at the heart of these new Windows 10 releases. 2 releases ago the pen was totally unusable, executing automatic multiple clicks, activating popups and panels and generally behaving like a mad-thing on some very cheap hallucinatory drugs. In the last release it seemed to get fixed. In this new build 16251 it just does not work, tap to click - fails, you cannot select any tools, you cannot do anything at all. the only thing that happens when the pen tool comes into proximity of the tablet is a selection tool that seems to change size at will. It is irritating frustrating and annoying. It really is beyond me why in a Creators Update it's the pen tool that's at the core of any creativity that is unusable. Go Figure<br />
<br />
<b>2.Action Centre and Notifications:</b> The Cortana integration from phones is great, it's definitely limited my use of PushBullet, but PushBullet still wipes the floor with the Cortana's notification response algorithms. Yes you get the notifications, however responding is quite another thing. Replying to SMS is successful intermittently, a lottery. Responding to Whatsapp messages is a total FAIL. Over the last 2 builds it has been impossible to reply to a Whatsapp message from the Action Centre or the Notification fly-outs and this build is no exception. SO for the moment replying messages sent from your phone to your PC is all PushBullet if you want any success.<br />
<b><br /></b>
<b>3. Start Up and Lock Screens:</b> Your selected Start-Up and Lock Screen images disappear all the time. This one is a brand new bug. When start up your PC what you now see is a bluish gray (my colour selection I suppose). That's it, my selected images for the lock screen or the Windows defaults, nada. When you're in though and go back to the lock careen via Win key + L you do get to see your image.<br />
<br />
Other than these I've found so far - things seem to be ticking on nicely. Onwards hopefully to the best version of Windows 10 yet (fingers crossed)Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7588787832424557535.post-81603440932796167782017-07-17T19:22:00.000+01:002017-07-17T19:22:17.844+01:00Jabi Lake from the Jabi Lake mall<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

God know's I love my LG's, Huaweis' and Samsungs' however I've recently started to think that I was becoming a victim of product branding, a trade I ply with some success for my clients. Besides as an Android developer, I have frequently backed phones long before they became the flavour of the day. I remember my first phablet the Dell Streak, one of the most beautiful devices ever created. It did not do well - 18 months after Dell panned the whole mobile dev business Samsung releases the first Galaxy Note and the rest they say is history. Ok I digress, back to the matter at hand. I decided to take a plunge with the Gionee A1<br />
<br />
<b>First impressions:</b><br />
In a word it looked good, I like black phones and this was a jet black 5.5 inch phone. The phone comes with a 5.50-inch touchscreen display with a resolution of 1080 pixels by 1920 pixels. The damage to my wallet N100,000.<br />
<br />
The Gionee A1 is powered by 2GHz octa-core MediaTek Helio P10 MT6755 processor and it comes with 4GB of RAM, so its power is not in doubt. The phone has 64GB of internal storage that can be expanded up to 256GB via a microSD card, but only if you decide not to use 2 SIM cards. As far as the cameras are concerned, the Gionee A1 packs a 13-megapixel primary camera on the rear and a 16-megapixel front shooter for selfies.<br />
<br />
The Gionee A1 runs Android 7.0 and is powered by a 4010mAh non removable battery. It measures 154.50 x 76.50 x 8.30 (height x width x thickness) and weigh 183.00 grams.<br />
<br />
This is a dual SIM (GSM and GSM) smartphone that accepts Nano-SIM and Micro-SIM. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth, USB OTG, FM, 3G and 4G (with support for Band 40). Sensors on the phone include Compass Magnetometer, Proximity sensor, Accelerometer, Ambient light sensor and Gyroscope.<br />
<br />
<b>Feeling the phone:</b><br />

<br />
Ok so enough about the tech stuff, the phone feels good to touch, like metal with a furry finish, it's a nice tactile feeling. The box it comes in is quite premium but the Seyi Shay picture on the front nearly put me off buying the phone. Brand choices - ah well.<br />
I've never used a phone whose default launcher I like, so I really did not spend much time using it, I just downloaded my usuals (Nova and Go)and got on with it.<br />
The battery life is decent, forget the bloated claims, but depending on usage it can do about 24 hours from full to empty with light usage, heavy usage will lower these times, still it's bloody decent. The battery cannot be removed.<br />
<br />
<b>Pictures:</b><br />
I've been impressed with the camera, fore and aft cameras do a great job, but it's best in good light. Definitely not my choice in low light, but the flash does help.<br />
This picture was taken on a not so bright day, kind of cloudy, but the colours are sharp and quite close to real. Sorry no selfies for you to see, I hate taking them, too private I guess :)<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEibs3zd8eInZ3vpk7Rgv4GlB1pKJu8P1Ujj_LnIIELlXiA9qR2H0sfGgWbRwYkgl14-NsODnuGkOj9VgC6j1KRPLLqf46bpuSL-7TPD6I4Uw0xP8nxeQq7BWvv4DpxNyB6dV9VGt1jhkmc/s1600/IMG_20170702_125112.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1200" data-original-width="1600" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEibs3zd8eInZ3vpk7Rgv4GlB1pKJu8P1Ujj_LnIIELlXiA9qR2H0sfGgWbRwYkgl14-NsODnuGkOj9VgC6j1KRPLLqf46bpuSL-7TPD6I4Uw0xP8nxeQq7BWvv4DpxNyB6dV9VGt1jhkmc/s400/IMG_20170702_125112.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<b>Fingerprint sensors and other things:</b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
the A1 fingerprint sensor is perhaps not as speedy as the Huawei Mate 8, but seriously we're talking nano seconds and you really will not notice the difference. It works well and that's all there is to it.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I really do not like the desktop setting manager, perhaps in a bid to be different Gionee has put it at the bottom rather than at the top, I do not like it. I also do not like the fact that a lot of widgets, some of them my favourite do not work on the A1. They install and display as required after they are first installed, but one restart and the only evidence you can find of them is a shortcut to the app in the Widgets manager, very annoying - and no way visible on the phone to redress this.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
The phone comes with a flip cover case, I did not like it at first, but now, it does not seem so bad, it definitely protects the phone from the basic falls and stuff</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Gionee is obviously trying to build its customer base so they have a decent warrantee program, I had to fill this out and give this to the retail outlet I bought the phone from. I have the other copy</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Contrary to some reviews I've read, it heats no differently from other phones I've used. It's hottest when I use Google Maps, but then it's usually in a phone mount suspended from my wind shield - temperatures here are generally 30+ degrees Celcius</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<b>What I think:</b></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
It's a bloody good phone, and for the price it's definitely recommended</div>

This folder is created when you upgrade from one version of Windows to another, starting with Windows Vista. The Windows.old folder contains all the files and data from your previous Windows installation. You can use it to restore your system to the old version of Windows if you don’t like the new version. If you’re looking for a specific file that wasn’t properly copied to your new Windows installation, you also could dig into the Windows.old folder and find it.<br />
<br />
Essentially, the Windows.old folder just contains the old Windows system. From the Windows system files to your installed programs and each user account’s settings and files, it’s all here. The new version of Windows just keeps it around in case you’d like to go back to that older version of Windows or in case you need to dig in and find a file.<br />
<br />
But, don’t wait too long—Windows will automatically delete the Windows.old folder to free up space after a month.</div>
Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7588787832424557535.post-34580664799102192052017-07-03T17:02:00.000+01:002017-07-03T17:04:39.617+01:00Kotlin:: Reading data from FirebaseIn order to read your data from Firebase with Kotlin you need to go through the usual rigmarole of setting up Firebase and Kotlin in Android Studio - I'm not even going near the Android Studio 3 Preview because it's as buggy as a a nest of fly lavae.<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Ok here we go:</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
1. Declare the DatabaseReference object in your class, I use the lateinit modifier because it allows me declare the object without having to initialize it immediately. I can initialize it later at my leisure:</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
lateinit var databaseRef: databaseReference</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
2 I initialize it within my onCreate like so:</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
databaseRef = FirebaseDatabase.getInstance().getReference()</div>
<div>
Please make sure you import </div>
<div>
import com.google.firebase.database.*</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
3 I call a method getGreeting()</div>
<div>
In this method I call the entry "greeting" in my Firebase app account. greeting is just a name value entry with a string as the value. To listen for the response of my call, I have the ValueEventListener added to the reference call like so:</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
databaseRef.child("greeting").addValueEventListener(object:ValueEventListener{</div>
<div>
override fun onDataChange(snapshot: DataSnapshot){\</div>
<div>
println("TestBed: ${snapshot.value}")</div>
<div>
}</div>
<div>
})</div>
<div>
}</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
That's it really, the code below shows you the complete business</div>
<div>

Here is how:<br />
<br />
Open Settings (available in your App Drawer).<br />
Go to Account > WhatsApp.<br />
In the new screen, tap on WhatsApp again.<br />
Press the Menu Button and choose Remove account.<br />
Go back to WhatsApp > Contacts > Menu Button > Refresh.<br />
If the above steps do not work, it is possible that your security application may be preventing WhatsApp from functioning properly.<br />
<br />
To ensure WhatsApp functions properly on your device:<br />
<br />
Go to the Security Application > Permission > Manage App Permissions > Apps tab > Select WhatsApp > turn on Trust this App ><br />
